For the most part the national workforce has
been able to adapt well, largely due to the
country's broadband connectivity. There has
been a certain degree of surprise at how well
remote working has been adopted and it
has served to challenge the status quo of
office presenteeism.
'Elements of the UK middle market have been
able to reimagine the way they operate as
a result of the ability and robustness of the
UK broadband connectivity infrastructure.
Without that infrastructural support, the
economic and societal impact would have been
far more pronounced and detrimental for far
longer,' said Hart.
Whilst the challenge of the pandemic
and Brexit has demonstrated a degree
of robustness in our infrastructure, the
disruptions have also highlighted its limitations.
Of the 411 businesses we surveyed the
majority believe that the current state of UK
infrastructure is restricting growth, for the
economy, to them locally and to the growth
of their business.
While the UK's current infrastructure has
been proven to be sufficient to support the
status quo in the middle market, there is a
clear widespread frustration with its ability to
nurture the growth that is so essential to the
middle market.
