In 2019 the UK became the first major
economy to pass a net zero emissions target
into law. In setting this target the Government
has positioned the UK as a nation leading the
fight against climate change.
The UK will now have to bring all greenhouse
gas emissions to net zero by 2050, based on
the recommendation of the Committee on
Climate Change (CCC), the UK's independent
climate advisory board.
The ambitious target has been welcomed
by environmental campaigners. Hitting that
target will demand considerable resource but
based on the green activity the middle market
has already undertaken, businesses appear to
be in support of the Government's ambitions.
The vast majority of respondents said that
their businesses had taken at least some
action to reduce their carbon footprint.
