The Learning & Work Institute found that 70
per cent of young people expect employers
to invest in training for digital skills during
their employment. However, only half of
the employers surveyed are able to provide
that training. There is a mismatch between
what younger employees expect from their
employers around digital skills development
and in reality what employers are delivering.
Investment in digital infrastructure is essential
for the UK's economic growth but the end goal is
still a long way off.
Only 1.4 per cent of postcodes currently
receive gigabit speeds and the telecoms
industry have widely stated that urgent policy
reform is required in order to meet even the
reduced Government targets. This is especially
relevant for SMEs and the middle market who
often do not have the resources for extensive
private cloud and networking arrangements
and must rely on public cloud infrastructure via
the internet.
