In October 2020 the Department for
Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
(BEIS) extended their energy usage prediction
to 2040. Renewables, nuclear and imported
electricity is anticipated to increase to just
over 85 per cent by that date.
'At present, digital infrastructure might be
considered the most restrictive element of
infrastructure for the middle market, but
the availability of green energy is about to
shoot up that list', comments Boorman.
Electricity is being promoted as a replacement
to fossil fuels, but it's not. As the National
Grid comes under strain consideration of
the infrastructure available to support green
energy will come under serious scrutiny'.
Our energy consumption is expected to fall
over the first half of the coming decade,
via improved energy efficiency and energy
conservation measures, such as better
insulation. This is anticipated to partially offset
the higher demand for electricity in servicing
industrial work and transport, particularly
Electric vehicles (EVs).
Electric vehicles are hailed by many as a
solution to car pollution. In 2017 cars and
vans accounted for nearly a fifth of the UK's
total carbon emissions, making combustion
engines a target for the government if the UK
is going to reduce its carbon footprint.
